☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains "A Small Matter of Time," in which Professor Amos Shute is discredited by his associates for his theories about multiple worlds and identical obscure galaxies, then summons youthful believers to his laboratory to demonstrate a scale facsimile globe programmed to send space ships to assigned planets. A man sent to 1914 Eastern Europe must prevent an assassination that will plunge the world into war, learning that his destination year will be 1939 and he must stop a dictator from involving that world in war. "The Thing in the Ledge" features a hunter and his companions who encounter a mysterious creature in a cave that physically manifests and pulls one of them into a rocky crevasse, causing terror among the group as they debate whether they have witnessed something unreal or genuinely supernatural.
Harry Clark, a Jersey fisherman, survives a mysterious storm at sea only to find himself aboard an alien vessel from the planet Thaxos—rescued by the compassionate Tana, who insists on righting the wrong her people have done him. When the ship's healer surgically transforms Harry so he can survive their atmosphere, he realizes he can never truly return to Earth as he was, setting him on a desperate journey back home with Tana at his side. What Harry discovers when he finally reaches his hometown will force him to confront an impossible truth about the price of rescue and belonging.
A raccoon hunt takes a sinister turn when one of the hunting dogs vanishes into a rock ledge, and the narrator feels an inexplicable, terrifying pull drawing him toward a mysterious presence lurking within the stone. Desperate to confront whatever took his dog, he returns to the ledge armed with dynamite—but the thing's hypnotic grip may prove stronger than his will to escape. A pulse-pounding descent into the unknown from the pages of Unusual Tales.
