Unfollow #1

Vertigo's Unfollow arrives in January 2016 with a cover by Matt Taylor that immediately sets the tone: a pair of large red-tinted hands cradles a smartphone displaying a grid of twelve distinct faces rendered in cool blue, their expressions ranging from wary to smiling — while bloody fingerprints smudge the screen and a medical IV line trails below. That unsettling collision of social-media intimacy and something far more sinister frames the series' premise neatly, and the prominent "140" badge makes clear that this story, written by Rob Williams with art and inks by Mike Dowling and colors by Quinton Winter, is counting every one of those people. Brian Azzarello calls it "provoking, beautiful, and topical," and this opener looks every bit of that.
