“The Killer Among Us”

Rick Remender's "The Killer Among Us" arc continues in this darkly atmospheric 2011 chapter, with a cover by Esad Ribić that immediately commands attention. A menacing winged figure in blue-striped armor — the corrupted Warren Worthington known as Archangel — looms over a fallen, pale-haired young woman, one glowing hand reaching toward her in a moment that feels equal parts threatening and eerily tender. Ribić's painterly style gives the whole scene a brooding, almost elegiac weight that perfectly suits the moral shadows at the heart of Uncanny X-Force.
