Umowa z Bogiem - trylogia #[nn]
This Polish-language collection brings together Will Eisner's groundbreaking graphic novel trilogy 'A Contract with God' in a single volume. Originally published in the 1970s and 1980s, these stories are widely regarded as pioneering works that helped establish the graphic novel as a serious literary form, exploring themes of faith, loss, and urban life in a tenement building in 1930s New York. The volume includes 'A Contract with God,' 'The Street Singer,' and 'The Super,' all rendered in Eisner's distinctive, cinematic style.
In "Umowa z Bogiem," Frimme Hersh, a man seeking refuge in America, makes a solemn pact with God on a stone—swearing devotion in exchange for safe passage. Years later, after settling into a New York tenement, he finds a baby girl left on his doorstep, and raises her with love and care. When tragedy strikes and the child dies, Frimme’s faith shatters, and he renounces his promise with a furious act of defiance.
