Ultimates #12
The twelfth and final Civil War II tie-in issue of Al Ewing and Christian Ward's Ultimates run closes with a cover by Kenneth Rocafort that is nothing short of awe-inspiring — a towering Galactus, rendered in gleaming gold armor, stands at the collision point of two realities: the star-filled cosmos above and a shattered, paint-splashed abstract void below, cradling swirling, luminous orbs of cosmic energy in his hands. The fractured geometric debris scattering across the lower half of the image gives the whole composition a sense of dimensions coming apart at the seams. It's a genuinely striking piece of 2016 Marvel cosmic grandeur, and a fitting visual statement for a series that never shied away from thinking on a universal scale.
