Ultimate Fantastic Four #23

Sue Storm takes center stage on this unsettling cover by Greg Land and Matt Ryan, her Fantastic Four uniform a stark contrast to the sea of grasping shadow-hands pressing through a blood-red grid behind her — it's a genuinely arresting image. Her expression of wide-eyed terror and her outstretched hand give the scene real urgency, perfectly suited to the third and final chapter of the "Crossover" arc. Mark Millar's run on Ultimate Fantastic Four delivered some of 2005's most imaginative superhero storytelling, and this closing installment looks like no exception.
