Ultimate Comics X-Men #24
Part one of a five-chapter arc kicks off with a cover that feels more like a classified dossier than a superhero splash — Dave Johnson's striking X-ray image of a mutant skeleton, annotated with binary readouts, genome codes, and biometric data, suggests that mutantkind itself is under the microscope. The clinical pink-and-white palette gives the whole thing an unsettling, almost corporate chill that fits the "Natural Resources" title perfectly. With Brian Wood writing and Mahmud Asrar on interior art, this 2013 series was delivering some genuinely compelling takes on the Ultimate universe's mutant condition.
