Ultimate Comics X-Men #17
Dave Johnson's stark, grayscale cover for this 2012 Marvel title says everything without saying a word: Kitty Pryde stares out from what is unmistakably a wanted poster, stamped "FUGITIVE" in bold red letters, her stats and the charge — "Wanted for Treason and Crimes Against the State" — laid out in cold bureaucratic detail. It's a striking visual encapsulation of the "United We Stand" arc, suggesting that for mutants in the Ultimate Universe, even heroes can become enemies of the state. Brian Wood and artist Carlo Barberi continue what looks to be a tense, politically charged chapter in the lives of the Ultimate X-Men.
