Writer Bryan Hill, whose prior Wakanda credentials included the critically noted Killmonger miniseries from 2018, was announced for the project in late 2023 following the conclusion of Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Invasion miniseries, which laid the Earth-6160 foundation. Hill has spoken publicly about approaching the series with the structural ambition of epic-fantasy world-building — citing Dune and A Song of Ice and Fire as tonal reference points — and about his desire to interrogate the tension between Wakanda's isolationism and its moral obligations to the wider African continent. Stefano Caselli, a veteran of Secret Warriors, Avengers: The Initiative, and Jonathan Hickman's own Avengers run, was paired with Hill as penciller and cover artist, with David Curiel on colors and VC's Cory Petit lettering. The issue shipped on February 7, 2024, with a cover-dated April 2024 issue, and strong initial orders prompted Marvel to commission a second printing — featuring new cover art by R. B. Silva — timed to arrive alongside issue #2.
