Ultimate Adventures #1

Marvel's 2002 series Ultimate Adventures kicks off with this quietly compelling cover by Duncan Fegredo: a massive, dark-costumed hero looms against a full moon over a city skyline, while a young boy in the foreground clutches what appears to be a piece of armored gear, his expression wary and uncertain. The contrast between the imposing figure and the vulnerable kid gives the whole image a thoughtful, grounded tension that sets an intriguing tone. Writer Ron Zimmerman and artist Fegredo look to be crafting something a little different in the Ultimate universe — and that story title, "It Ain't Me You're Lookin' For, Babe," only adds to the mystery.
