The issue also includes a backup story featuring a submarine rescue operation in which a diver named Doug must descend two hundred feet underwater to disable a damaged vessel and save its crew from suffocation.
When U.S. Jones, a Secret Service operative, hears gunshots in a small country town, he springs into action to stop a gang of killers—only to discover they've murdered a soldier and a young woman, and made off with crucial government secrets. A mysterious girl named Jean Mason appears with a lead on the murderers, but the chase ends in a violent crash that leaves U.S. separated from both Jean and his partner. Now racing against time with only fragments of the truth—a stolen ray formula, Nazi agents pulling the strings, and his pal missing—U.S. must unravel a deadly conspiracy before the enemy completes their sinister plans.
When anti-German hysteria sweeps a small Midwestern town, U.S. Jones and his partner the Grumbler arrive to find a mob terrorizing a family caught in the crossfire of suspicion and spite. It turns out the real villain is Gabby Browning, a vindictive bank officer nursing a grudge after being rejected by the family's daughter, Elsa—and he's weaponizing the town's wartime fears to destroy them. U.S. Jones must expose the truth before a hooded mob can carry out their brutal plan, and remind the townspeople that patriotism has no room for malice and lies.
When Nazi agents smuggle themselves into an American navy yard posing as dock workers, U.S. Jones and his pal the Grumbler catch wind of the plot and move to stop them—but the enemy operatives, equipped with brutal artificial limbs, fight back with deadly force. With the Grumbler captured and U.S. left for dead by the Nazis' leader Kranz, the American defender discovers reserves of strength to rise again and pursue the conspirators into their secret headquarters. The two must race against time to dismantle the Axis operation before it's too late.
