By late 1955, when this issue was released (on-sale October 8, 1955, with a February 1956 cover date), the Two-Gun Kid series had been running continuously since Atlas revived it at issue #11 in 1953, following a brief hiatus after the original Timely Comics run. Stan Lee served as both writer and editor across the Atlas western line, often going uncredited on scripts; for this issue, penciler and inker Chuck Miller handled the interior stories while Joe Maneely — Atlas's most prolific and versatile cover artist of the era, known for his obsessively accurate period detail on western subjects — supplied the cover. The book was part of a dense cluster of Atlas western titles competing with Dell, Charlton, and DC for the booming TV-western-driven newsstand market of the mid-1950s.
