“De Wankh Deel 2”

This fourth volume in the Dutch-language Tschaï: De Waanzinnige Planeet series continues the adaptation of Jack Vance's beloved science-fiction novel cycle, with "De Wankh Deel 2" picking up the second half of that story arc. Li-An's cover art draws the eye immediately to a stern, determined man leaning over an ornately decorated table, his hands resting on either side of a glowing blue artifact — a luminous, sculptural object that pulses with an eerie alien energy against the rich teal and orange palette of a strikingly alien interior. Written by Jean-David Morvan and Sophro, with colors by Scarlett Smulkowski deepening every shadow and highlight, this 2007 release makes for a beautifully crafted entry in one of Belgian comics' more ambitious science-fiction adaptations.
