“Their Secret Decision”

In "Their Secret Decision," Vickie trades her secretarial role for a demanding job as a factory welder, chasing better pay and a new life—only to find her choices strain her relationships and challenge her values. Art Cappello’s expressive art brings raw honesty to her journey, from her conflicted romance with fellow worker Vic to her marriage to wealthy socialite Morgan, all rendered with the grounded realism characteristic of Charlton’s 1954 storytelling. The cover, by Art Cappello and Al Fago, captures the emotional weight of her turning point.

Vickie leaves her secretarial job for a better-paying position as a welder on the factory floor. Her boyfriend Fred breaks up with her as a result. "It's money that counts--nothing else!" Vickie works hard to become "the best worker at the plant." She dates fellow worker Vic but he doesn't have enough money to take her to fancy nightclubs, etc. She marries older, wealthy socialite Morgan but is not physically attracted to him. Vickie offers Vic the chance to have an affair but he rejects her, and Morgan finds a mistress. Vickie realizes she's been a "blind, greedy fool!"
