As secretary to a writer, Sarah is asked to take notes at an orphanage for a column Martin is planning to write. Sarah's life changes when a young boy from the orphanage hides away in the boot of the car. It breaks her heart to send him back to the orphanage and she is reminded of the times her father had sent her back to her mother and stepfather when she was young. To adopt Benny, Sarah is willing to accept marriage proposals that she had previously rejected.
