Sally's life working as a waitress at a café in Dunford wasn't very exciting until Dave was hired as the pianist there. They start seeing each other regularly, but Sally overhears his landlady comment that he's given his notice and is going to London. Sally wonders why he hasn't told her. Finally, he tells her that the police had found drugs in his music case, planted there by the sax-man from his previous band. He had been hiding in Dunford, but was returning to London to give himself up. Sally insists on going undercover to get evidence against the sax-man to clear Dave.
