Karen falls for Bill, but he is always asking for money from their savings to gamble with. Eventually, he tells her to refuse him if he ever asks for money again. But later he is convinced that investing in shares of Tintam will double their money in no time. Karen refuses to give him any money, but when she sees a newspaper headline about Tintam shares going up, she decides to invest the money herself. Shortly afterwards, it is revealed that the Tintam mine was a dud and the bottom had dropped out of the market.
