Trinity #5

Francis Manapul's painted cover for Trinity #5 (March 2017) is a haunting, lush composition — Superman appears vulnerable and entangled in vines while Poison Ivy looms over him, her red hair cascading as she holds what appears to be a blade or stem near his chest. Wonder Woman and Batman lie unconscious in the foreground, surrounded by flickering candles and creeping foliage, all of it overshadowed by an enormous, grinning face with glowing eyes lurking ominously in the upper corner. The DC Universe Rebirth era's "Better Together" arc finds DC's greatest trio in a precarious moment, and Manapul's richly detailed, almost dreamlike artwork makes this chapter feel genuinely unsettling.
