Trees #7
The starkly minimal cover of Trees #7 says everything about humanity's place in a world claimed by alien machines — a lone figure carrying a briefcase walks alongside a row of massive, spider-legged black cylinders, each glowing with a single yellow eye, dwarfed to near-insignificance by their scale. Jason Howard's linework is coolly precise, leaning on negative space and shadow to give these silent, indifferent structures an unsettling weight. Warren Ellis and Howard continue to build one of 2014's most thought-provoking science fiction series from Image, and this cover alone earns a place on the shelf.
