Japan's foreign minister requests Bishop Walsh to bring a message to President Roosevelt. Walsh meets with FDR for several hours and returns to Tokyo. In June, 1941, the military party is gaining control of Japan and the foreign minister saves him with a safe conduct letter, which allows him to travel to China. War breaks out between the US and Japan in Dec. 1941 and all American missionaries in Japanese territory are jailed. In 1946, after the war is over, Bishop Walsh is asked to tour China with Cardinal Spellman and Monisgnor Fulton Sheen.
