Spider Jerusalem reclines with all the coiled menace of a man who owns the truth — gun raised, tattooed chest bare, his signature two-lensed shades gleaming red, while his feral cat perches snarling beside him and a wall of flames illuminates grinning political faces on screens behind them. Darick Robertson's cover for this second chapter of "Gouge Away" distills everything that makes Transmetropolitan crackle: a journalist at war with power, surrounded by fire and fury. Warren Ellis and Robertson were doing some of their sharpest work together in 2000, and this Vertigo installment looks every bit the part.
