Issue 2 of Primal Gods in Ancient Times (峠鬼) draws you straight into its atmospheric ancient Japanese world, with Kenji Tsurubuchi's cover presenting a striking tableau — a shaven-headed monk in red and grey robes standing in quiet contrast to a dark-haired figure crouching in shadow, all framed by the wooden architecture of a traditional structure. The muted, lantern-lit palette and the series' bold Japanese calligraphy give the whole image a sense of stillness charged with something unspoken. Published by Kadokawa under the Harta Comix imprint, this volume continues what looks to be a beautifully rendered exploration of folklore and the divine.
