“Menu of Death”

Billing itself as "America's Funniest Joke Book," this 1943 MLJ entry from Archie delivers a wonderfully chaotic circus scene straight from Don Dean's pen and brush. The cover centerpiece is a towering, grinning giraffe being admired by two stylish blonde women, while a hapless fellow in a red outfit scrambles to manage a troupe of mischievous monkeys — one of whom has apparently gotten hold of a banana near a "Do Not Feed Animals" sign. Colorful balloons, a green parrot perched on the giraffe's back, and the big-top tent backdrop round out a cover that promises plenty of laughs within.
