“The Doctor Who Was Twins”

From MLJ's humor anthology comes this January 1943 entry in the long-running Top-Notch Laugh Comics series, proudly billed as "America's Funniest Joke Book." Red Holmdale's cover delivers a wonderfully chaotic rooftop scene — a yellow-and-blue costumed hero strides confidently along a giant tilting beam while cartoon characters tumble, scramble, and scatter around him, including a crook on a ladder and bewildered bystanders caught in the comic mayhem. At a dime a copy, this MLJ anthology was packing plenty of laughs into every issue, including Don Dean's story "The Doctor Who Was Twins.
