In "null," Tom’s ill-advised trade of an old horse for junk machinery sets off a chain of increasingly absurd exchanges with the farmer. When the mice bring home a runaway elephant and begin trading it for increasingly strange goods, Tom finds himself caught in a bizarre barter spiral that leads to an unexpected chore—washing the elephant—in exchange for circus tickets.

In "null," Little Tyke goes to great lengths to prove dogs are wonderful companions, hoping to convince a skeptical mother to get one for her son. When she finally agrees, Spike is utterly baffled by the sudden, unusually well-behaved newcomer—so much so that he mistakes the new dog for his own son, Tyke.
