Tom Mix encounters a dangerous criminal named Hoot Mondy who has stolen gold and killed a man named Clem. Tom and his allies pursue Mondy, eventually discovering that the town undertaker Dave Herbert has been involved in the scheme. The story concludes with Tom tracking down Mondy and bringing the criminals to justice.
