“Toen we van de Duitsers verloren”

This 2002 Dutch graphic work from Oog & Blik and De Harmonie is entirely the vision of Guido van Driel, who handles writing, art, inking, and coloring throughout. The cover painting, also by van Driel, is quietly evocative: a blonde girl seated on a large round ball gazes away from us toward a row of modest suburban houses, a parked blue station wagon, and tall poplar trees under an open sky. There's something tender and a little melancholy in that solitary figure and her ordinary surroundings — a warm invitation to explore whatever story lies within.
