“Chapter 1: Alert Five”

"Chapter 1: Alert Five" kicks off Titanium Rain with a tense, high-stakes opening: a fireteam fights for survival through the ruins of a Sichuan Basin city, hunted by twelve advancing mech suits. The story shifts to Mamoru Air Base on Hainan Island, where a pilot’s quiet moment with a dead seagull gives way to a tense poker game among pilots representing different nations, all tied to the ongoing "Sino Conflict"—until a scramble signal cuts the game short and two pilots prepare for flight. Written and illustrated by Josh Finney and Kat Rocha, with full creative collaboration on both art and color, the issue blends grounded military tension with a sharp, philosophical edge, all wrapped in a striking cover by Finney and Rocha.

A fireteam runs through a combat zone in a city in Sichuan Basin, China, pursued by twelve mobile infantry mech suits. Their captain requests air support, but is hit by fire from one of the mechs. Cut to a fighter pilot at Mamoru Air Base on Hainan Island, staring at a dead seagull while monologuing about Darwinism. Another pilot asks him to the Alert Hut, where they and three other pilots play a variant of poker based on the current "Sino Conflict", each of them representing a nation. The game is interrupted by a scramble signal, and two of them prepare and take off in Hellcat fighter jets.
