“The Archis Murder Case”

In "The Archis Murder Case," Tarzan confronts a mystery that leads him to an unexpected reunion with Tantor, the elephant he once knew from his youth—revealed by a distinctive scar. With the help of a loyal lion pack and his great ape allies, Tarzan must stop an invading army from seizing the Golden City, using the terrain and his wits to turn the tide. Written by Don Garden and illustrated with dynamic flair by Burne Hogarth, this 1941 adventure blends action and ancient intrigue in a story that remains thrillingly grounded in its world.

Astride the lead elephant Tarzan notices a scar which reveals it to be Tantor, a friend from his youth. Recognizing Tarzan's voice, Tantor calms his stampeding herd, and together with the previously befriended lion pack, all head northwards towards the invading army. Meeting up with his great ape allies he sees that the enemy's tank are heading towards the pass which is the entrance to the Golden City. Attacking, the elephants overturn tanks and wagons, routing the invaders. One tank is pushed over a cliff, but hits Tarzan and he plummets earthwards.
