The story involves a quest to prevent a catastrophic disruption to history, featuring appearances by various heroes and villains across different eras.
In "Time Has Come Today," Rip Hunter sends Jeff Smith back to 1874 to stop Mexican President Porfirio Diaz, whom he suspects is secretly tied to the Illuminati. When Rip’s lab is destroyed by an agent of Vandal Savage, the mission takes a dangerous turn—especially as Cave Carson arrives to lend his aid. With time unraveling and old enemies stirring, the fate of history hangs in the balance.
In the late 18th century, a shadowy conspiracy twists history as an impostor takes the place of Colonel George Washington, threatening the course of American independence. Rip's nephew Dan Hunter finds himself caught in the past, teaming up with the warrior Tomahawk to unravel the deception before time itself unravels.
In 1770, Vandal Savage receives a report that George Washington has been assassinated and replaced—setting off a chain of events that pulls Antonia into a high-stakes mission across time. Sent to 980 A.D. to recover the Holy Grail, she teams up with the Viking Prince, only to find themselves captured by Vandal Savage once again.
In "Long Time Coming!", a desperate mission to save Atlantis from collapse sends Rip, Cave, and Jeff through time to the realm of 45,000 B.C., where they meet its ancient lord, Arion. When Arion’s daughter Kara is endangered by a sudden earthquake, Rip’s act of heroism earns him the Atlantean’s wisdom—along with a dangerous legacy tied to Vandal Savage. Though warned to avoid violence, Rip’s resolve hardens, and he vanishes into the time sphere to confront the enemy who has poisoned Atlantis’s fate. The sphere returns empty, leaving the team with only questions and the weight of what might have been.
In "Time Loves a Hero," Rip Hunter journeys to the prehistoric past, where he confronts a man he believes to be Vandal Savage—only to discover that his death will ensure the tyrant’s legacy lives on through his son, Vandar Adg. Meanwhile, Bonnie Baxter ventures to a future ravaged by nuclear war, where she joins a group of survivors known as the Illuminati, determined to rebuild. Cave Carson and Jeff Smith return to the present from Atlantis, while Antonia reunites with her sister and finds her way home. The past, present, and future converge in a story of legacy, choice, and the quiet hope of self-renewal.
