Thunderbolts #136
Part four of "Widowmaker" lands with a cover that bristles with quiet menace: a figure bearing Black Widow's distinctive belt buckle and holstered pistol stands in the foreground with her back to us, while a winged armored figure with glowing red eyes, a pink-haired woman, and a cybernetically enhanced gunman emerge from the mist behind her. Francesco Mattina's painted cover work gives the whole scene a cold, cinematic tension that fits perfectly within the Dark Reign banner running across the top. Andy Diggle and Pop Mahn's run on this title continues to deliver morally complicated operatives doing very dangerous things — and this issue's cover promises that the Thunderbolts and their reluctant guest are anything but allies.

It's a free-for-all when Paladin, Headsman, and Ghost turn on Scourge and Mister X to keep them from executing Songbird and the Black Widow (Ant-Man scurries for safety). Mach-IV rescues the women and Fixer reveals that Osborn only shot an LMD, not the real Nick Fury.
