In "Face of the Dragon," Peter Cannon—Thunderbolt faces an invasion in the Himalayan Mountains where a man named Tabu uses psychic powers to materialize a dragon creature to terrorize the region. After the dragon's substance fails and the invaders flee in panic, Tabu reveals he created the dragon through concentration and extra-sensory materialization. Thunderbolt battles a muscular giant creature called Brute in the story's climax, sustaining severe damage but ultimately continuing to fight despite his condition.

When a mysterious frozen figure appears at Peter Cannon's gate clutching a defaced griffin idol, Thunderbolt recognizes an ancient Eastern symbol of invasion and danger. The clue sends him and his companion Tabu racing toward the Himalayas, where a warlord called the Dragon has seized an ancient palace and set refugees fleeing in terror. Thunderbolt must parachute into the heart of this chaos to stop the mysterious threat before it consumes the sacred valley where he was raised.
