Lani can't marry Don until he finishes his degree, and she feels suffocated living at home. As a favor to a friend, Lani double dates with her former boyfriend Jerry, who wants her back. After a dinner with her family and Don's parents goes wrong, Lani argues with Don. He tells her that he has a good job offer but it will mean an additional year before they can wed. Lani breaks up with him and agrees to marry Jerry. Her aunt warns her that her mother married without love and now lives "a nightmare." Lani resolves to help her family be happier and to wait and marry Don, the one she loves.
