“The Trophy!”

In "The Trophy!", a stranded traveler takes refuge in a remote farmhouse, where an old woman warns him of her vampire husband—only to be met with a chillingly calm reply when he reveals his own wife is a ghoul. Written by Al Feldstein and illustrated by Bill Elder, this eerie tale from EC’s *Three Dimensional Tales from the Crypt of Terror* #2 (1954) unfolds with creeping dread, anchored in a single, locked closet and a man’s growing unease. The cover, penciled and inked by Al Feldstein, captures the story’s unsettling mood in stark, shadowed detail.

Stopped by the Police because the bridge was washed out on the main road, a man insists on taking a side road, but gets stuck in the mud. Spotting an isolated farmhouse, the man approaches, but is warned by an old woman inside that it was dangerous to stay there, and that her husband was a vampire. However, when the man tells him that his wife was a ghoul, he decides it's time for bed, but is warned to keep the room's closet locked. Soon he learns to regret his decision to remain.
