A powerfully rendered portrait of Thorgal himself dominates this 2018 Le Lombard album — dark-haired, bearded, and battle-worn, he stands armed with both spear and sword against a luminous, painterly sky. G. Rosinski's artwork brings an almost classical gravitas to the barbarian hero, while Yann's scenario promises the kind of mythic adventure the series delivers so well. Aniël looks to be another compelling chapter in one of European comics' most enduring sagas.
