Few comics capture the raw tension of myth like this July 1976 installment of The Mighty Thor. Jack Kirby's pencils and Joe Sinnott's inks deliver a breathtaking cover: Thor, hammer raised and golden hair flying, surges through a crowd of Asgardian warriors in a desperate clash — while the bearded, regal Odin stands firm in the background, commanding his son to dare not strike him. The cover's bold speech balloons — proclaiming that "son must battle father, even onto death!" — set up "The Throne and the Fury!" as a story of divided loyalties and Asgardian stakes at their most personal.
