History

The issue was written by Stan Lee, penciled by Jack Kirby, and inked by Vince Colletta, with lettering shared by Sam Rosen and Artie Simek—the same core team that had defined the title for years. Notably, the Grand Comics Database (corroborated by researcher Nick Caputo) documents that John Romita Sr. made alterations to Thor's costume and boots on the cover before printing, a quiet editorial touch-up practice common on Kirby covers of this period. The 'Tales of Asgard' feature that ends here had begun as a five-page passion project for Kirby in 1963, rooted in his deep affection for Norse mythology, and the decision to replace it with an Inhumans featurette starting next issue reflected Marvel's desire to expand awareness of a team that had just made a splash in Fantastic Four.
