Part of Marvel's 1998 "Heroes Return" initiative, this first issue launches a bold new era for the God of Thunder, with cover art by John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson setting the tone in spectacular fashion. The cover puts Thor front and center — winged helmet gleaming, red cape billowing, Mjolnir thrust forward with both fists as golden energy radiates outward across a rubble-strewn cityscape, with what appear to be other armored figures visible in the chaos below. Writer Dan Jurgens kicks things off with "In Search of the Gods," and with Romita Jr.'s dynamic linework backed by Janson's confident inks, this is a reinvention that arrives swinging.
