The Wild Storm #5

Issue five of Warren Ellis and Jon Davis-Hunt's ambitious WildStorm reimagining arrives with one of 2017's most striking covers: a white-haired woman in a dark red coat levels a pistol directly at the reader, her expression unflinching, while a massive, skull-faced alien creature with glowing red eyes and sprawling limbs looms in the darkness behind her. The tension between that cool, focused human figure and the vast, grotesque thing at her back perfectly captures the tone Ellis has been building across this series. Davis-Hunt's linework, colored with atmospheric depth by Steve Buccellato, makes the contrast between hunter and hunted feel genuinely unsettling.
