Wild Bill Pecos pursues a group of Cherokee warriors after they ambush a wagon carrying a totem pole, leading to a confrontation in which Wild Bill is believed killed but ultimately rescued by Nuggets Nugent. When Nuggets discovers Wild Bill alive but weakened, he carries him to safety, and Wild Bill eventually recovers his strength. The story concludes with the triumphant return of Lobo and the totem to the Cherokee village, restoring hope to the tribe after their leader's disappearance.
