In the first story, Wild Bill pursues the Owl-Hoot Gang across the desert after they commit a train robbery, engaging in a gunfight where he defeats the gang leader Clem and turns the criminals over to the law authorities. In "Roll Mules Roll," Wild Bill and his companion Nuggets encounter a disabled mule wagon in Montana territory and discover a fire in the area, setting up another frontier adventure.
When the ruthless Owlhoot Gang—including the knife-wielding Apache Joe, former doctor Harry Kendrick, cold-blooded Jim Ottoway, and the blood-thirsty young Billy Boy Devlin—rolls into the town of Three Corners with murder on their minds, they find their plans disrupted by the arrival of Wild Bill Pecos. The legendary gunslinger discovers that Sheriff Sam Johnson has fallen at the gang's hands, and steps into the lawman's boots to take them on. With bullets flying and the outlaws making their escape, Wild Bill faces a new challenge: keeping the peace as the town's new sheriff while the Owlhoot Gang remains at large.
Nuggets Nugent takes on a bet to hold down a job for three days, landing work at a general store—but when the outlaw known as the Sunrise Kid shows up demanding supplies at gunpoint, the lazy old pard finds himself in the middle of far more action than he bargained for. With help from his unlikely ally Geronimo, Nuggets gets his chance to prove he's more than just a drifter, though the final outcome of his employment may surprise him more than any gunfight.
When outlaw Wiley Harpe assumes the alias John Setton and partners with the murderous Madman Mason to prey on Mississippi River raftmen, their reign of violence and theft stretches across the frontier—until a storm at sea gives them a chance to escape the law. But freedom comes with a price, and when a reward poster bearing Mason's name sets the two thieves at odds, Setton must reckon with how far he'll go to claim it.
Wild Bill Pecos and his partner Nuggets come to the aid of Ed Marshall, a freight operator whose mule wagon business is being crushed by the ruthless monopolist Blaze Connors. When Marshall's drivers abandon him, Wild Bill and Nuggets volunteer to haul a crucial printing press shipment to Gordonsville—but Connors and his hired guns won't let the wagon reach its destination without a fight. As the mule team rolls toward Blind Man's Ravine, Wild Bill prepares for the showdown he knows is coming.
