About this Issue

The Walking Dead Weekly #27 is a 2011 reprint of the original April 2006 issue that introduced The Governor — the comic's most pivotal antagonist — along with the fortified survivor community of Woodbury and supporting character Caesar Martinez. The Governor's arrival fundamentally transformed the series from a story of zombie survival into a study of human brutality, driving the narrative across three consecutive story arcs and setting the template for the franchise's most dramatic chapters. His eventual television portrayal in AMC's Season 3 cemented the character's broader cultural footprint. The Weekly reprint gave tens of thousands of new readers drawn in by the AMC show their first affordable, single-issue access to this landmark chapter without hunting down the scarce original printing.

History

Image Comics announced the Walking Dead Weekly reprint series in October 2010, timed directly to the premiere of the AMC television adaptation, with writer Robert Kirkman framing it as a new-reader on-ramp for fans who had discovered the property through the show. Beginning January 5, 2011, Image released one reprint per week, covering the first 52 issues of the series across a full calendar year. Weekly #27 — reprinting the original issue by writer Robert Kirkman, penciler/cover artist Charlie Adlard, and gray-tone artist Cliff Rathburn — hit shops on July 6, 2011, exactly 27 weeks into the program.
