The Unexpected #195

DC's long-running anthology of dread, The Unexpected #195 (February 1980), packs three chilling comics in one dollar-priced package, also folding in House of Secrets, Witching Hour, and a fourth special feature — "Doorway to Nightmare." Luis Dominguez's cover pulls you in immediately: a terrified blonde woman, wreathed in flame, appears trapped within an ornate tapestry while a blue-tinged figure in the foreground reaches desperately toward her, pleading that he has to save her. It's a genuinely unsettling image that sets the anthology's mood perfectly, with interior work on "Whose Face Is at My Window?" handled by writer Dennis O'Neil and artist/inker Johnny Craig, with colors by Adrienne Roy.
