“Grave of Glass”

DC's long-running anthology of eerie tales delivers another unsettling entry with this 1973 issue, cover-priced at just twenty cents. Nick Cardy's cover art sets a quietly sinister mood: a blonde woman kneels among a garden of blooming flowers, admiring them — unaware that a massive, monstrous hand looms out of the darkness above her while a shadowy figure watches from behind a lantern-lit tree. Her innocent speech bubble — "What beautiful flowers you grew! May I have one?" — makes the lurking threat all the more chilling, and that's before you even get to George Kashdan and Abe Ocampo's interior tale, "Grave of Glass.
