Published on 22 November 1986 by Marvel UK, issue #88 arrived just weeks after the UK theatrical release of The Transformers: The Movie, making the convergence of the 'Target: 2006' epilogue with real-world events as close to simultaneous as Furman and the editorial team could manage on a weekly schedule. Furman wrote the arc — and this closing chapter — from an early draft of the film's script, meaning some character colour schemes and plot details diverged from the final movie, a production reality the TFWiki notes throughout its meticulous issue-by-issue annotation of the serial. The cover of #88 was drawn by Geoff Senior, one of several artists who rotated through the arc alongside Jeff Anderson, Will Simpson, and Ron Smith; Senior's dynamic, angular style had become closely associated with the UK book's most action-heavy sequences.
