Penny and Pat, two restless siblings, accidentally fall asleep in their grandfather's boat while it's moored near shore—and wake to discover the vessel has broken free and is drifting across the lake with no adults in sight. While Gramp, Larry, and the rest of the family scramble to organize a search party, the determined twins decide they'll have to fend for themselves, attempting to raise the sails and take control of their unexpected voyage across open water.

A disobedient boy named Mickey encounters Twinkie, a magical being who offers him three wishes in exchange for one of her own.
