The Texan #8
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains two stories: "Scalp Hunters Hide Their Tracks," in which Coyotero and his rebel band clash with cavalry forces, with Smoky Horse leading the charge before being betrayed and forced to flee; and "The Lone Vigilante," featuring a masked vigilante who pledges to fight crime and becomes involved in a sheriff's election when an outlaw named Fitch seeks to become sheriff, leading the vigilante to expose Fitch's criminal nature and support the honest candidate instead.
Caught between two worlds and two codes of honor, Smoky Horse—an Apache bronc buster trying to build a peaceful life among white settlers—is brutally beaten by vengeful townsmen and forced to choose between his tribe and his conscience. When Chief Coyotero demands he prove his loyalty by taking a paleface scalp on a raid, Smoky Horse rides with a war party toward an approaching train, torn between the Apache way and his dream of peace. With suspicion closing in from all sides and violence looming, Smoky Horse must navigate an impossible situation where any choice could cost him everything.
In "Ghost Riders Defy the Range Law," a lone marshal rides into Eagle Springs, where a string of violent raids by masked outlaws has left the town on edge. As he investigates, he uncovers a chilling pattern—each attack marked by silver bullets—and knows the truth behind the masked riders will only surface when the shooter is forced to confront a secret buried in the dust.
Yukon Jane, a hardy trapper of the Northland, finds herself under siege when a mysterious stranger saves her from a wolverine pack—only to reveal he's working with the ruthless pelt poacher Batiste to steal her land and hold her sister for ransom. With cunning and grit, Jane must navigate the dangerous trap that's been set for her in the frozen wilderness.
