Cheyenne Joe, a cavalry scout from Fort Bison, rescues a pioneer woman named Terry and her Uncle Dan from a raid by Chief Yellow Tooth's warriors along the Oregon Trail. A single-page exploration of how Native American tribes built their horse herds from wild stock and the Spanish origins of those animals, tracing how warriors developed deep bonds with their war-horses and valued them above nearly all other possessions. The account reveals the cultural significance of these mounts, reserved for the most important occasions—battle, the buffalo hunt, and ceremonial gatherings—and the reluctance warriors showed in ever parting with them.

Red Wolf tracks a trio of ruthless prospectors—Kauffin, Schultz, and Mort—across the treacherous slopes of Rain God Mountain after they raid an Apache camp and kill his brothers Dark Moon and Tree-on-Hill. When the renegades force him to lead them to the legendary Lost Spaniard Mine, Red Wolf must navigate both the deadly terrain and the criminals' greed to survive this perilous hunt through Deadfall Canyon. Every step brings him closer to a reckoning with enemies who'll stop at nothing to claim the gold—and silence anyone who knows its location.
