“The Day Simon Stagg Died Part One”

Issue #26 of The Terrifics arrives with a cover by Dan Mora that plunges you straight into subterranean chaos — a massive drill bit bores downward through rock and debris while two figures cling to the vehicle above, cheerfully shouting "Hey guys! I think we're almost there!" Below them, an enormous fanged creature and a swarm of monstrous beings wait in the darkness. It's a perfectly balanced mix of adventure-serial energy and team-book humor that captures what makes this series so enjoyable. With Gene Luen Yang writing and Sergio Dávila on interior art, "The Day Simon Stagg Died Part One" promises to keep the Terrifics barreling headlong into trouble — literally.

When Simon Stagg learns that he has pancreatic cancer, he uses the opening run of Gateway City's new rapid transit holo-pod system as a cover for something sinister that could save his life. But the other passengers on the system vanish too, including Plastic Man's son Luke. The Terrifics track down Stagg far underground, where they are attacked by monsters, but the surprise arrival of the T-Council may work in their favor.
