“The Cheat the Whole World Cheered”

This September 1975 Giant-sized issue of The Superman Family delivers an irresistible cover scene by Kurt Schaffenberger: Superman urgently shoves Jimmy Olsen aside, shouting that he must stop Lois Lane from marrying Lex Luthor — while in the church background, a veiled Lois stands at the altar beside a bald groom as a taunting voice bubble declares, "Too late, Superman — it's all over!" The cover also teases additional stories spotlighting Supergirl and Jimmy Olsen, with Lois Lane, Jimmy, and Supergirl each getting their own portrait along the left margin. At fifty cents, this was a generous package from DC, with Cary Bates scripting the lead Lois Lane yarn and Schaffenberger handling both pencils and inks throughout.
